Fallacies, by definition, are false ideas. In a more detailed aspect, fallacies can be seen as the one fault that proves an argument is false. It is clear that the ability for people to see through fallacies has become essential for today’s society. There are too many groups, not only religion, that prey on the inability of narrow-minded people to see the fallacies in their claims. Part of becoming a critical thinker is the open mindedness needed to see the faults of all arguments.
People need to understand fallacies before allowing themselves to fall so deeply into their beliefs. Without that ability, it is much like a blind man walking through a labyrinth. He will be deeply lost before he realizes that he needs a seeing-eye dog. By then, it might be too late for him to turn back. Fallacies and other critical thinking tools are crucial in the growth of humans.
