Some people just hold too much power in this world. People like Thakar Singh, who prey on believers, disgust me. Singh has been getting away with sexual abuse and child abuse by holding on to his false pretense as a God. I’m not sure if Singh had first intended to turn out this way, but it’s clear that he has been tempted by power. That much power does not mix with a corrupt individual. However, the fault cannot fully lie with him. It’s surprising just how easy thousands of people could believe someone just because he has the nerve to claim something. If his followers truly wanted to be skeptical about him, then they would discover his lies in almost no time at all. People just don’t want to be open minded about everything; they would rather accept lies, in order to believe in something.
One thing I learned from this is that cults have no place in this world. They denounce open mindedness by trying to conform. In an essence, they are trying to get rid of originality. The creators of religion may or may not have been trying to do this at the start, but the existence of cults is truly a plague on critical thinking.
Another thing I learned is that people should be careful in who they choose to give power; especially power that involves the blind conviction of its followers. It is important to learn everything about potential candidates in order to judge their qualifications.
